Tunnel Farming

The Sky is the Limit

When you are deciding what size you need your Tunnel farm to be there is really no limit. If you have a small area you can make a small tunnel farm, if you have a rather wide open section then why not try and cram as much as you can into a gigantic tunnel farm? The size is really all up to you and what your garden calls for.

Have Multiple Tunnel Farms

If you have the space then what is stopping you from having not one or two tunnel farms but many. You could section off each tunnel farm to house only one vegetable or even fruit to grow. You can control the Nutrient intake and keep the pH of the soil at just the right acidic or alkaline levels for optimum growth without worrying that you are affecting the plant in the row beside it.

Tunnel Farms come in all sizes

When you think about tunnel farming often it brings about images of tall plastic enclosed garden greenhouses with vibrant coloured vegetables flourishing even in the winter months... but that is simply not true. As you can see a Tunnel Farm can be any size and incorporated with something like your Raised Bed garden.

Tunnel Farming can be done anywhere

There are lots of places that have a lot of land mass but the soil or the weather is not good for growing crops of any kind. This puts a huge strain of the food consumption int he region but with a little help and knowledge communities might just be able to become self sufficient farmer communities by using a Tunnel to farm their foods.

What to Plant

Unsure of what types of vegetables you can plant in a Tunnel?
Fear not, this is just one of a few videos that can help you choose just the right food to plant into your home farm garden.

Save on Water

As you can see in the video above, one group of people decided to add a rain water catcher to their Tunnel Farm so as to help with watering their plants AND to help stop the erosion of the ground beside the tunnel.

Farming during the Winter Season

When winter comes around it is difficult to actually produce many (if any) vegetables or herbs. The weather is too cold and the average seed or seedling needs warm sunlight to germinate it's fruit. BUT the Tunnel Farming system might just be able to help you grow during the winter season because of its ability to create a greenhouse effect and keep the air inside the tunnel warm.
